James Whittemore
aka Jimmy Travis

Born in captivity in 1945, this son of a wonderful soprano and a great tenor spent the first seven years of life in blissful symbiosis. Soon however, he realized that he had five brothers and sisters who were also competing for the same air. Luckily, he was a natural-born leader and ran his siblings like poodles.

After finishing Palisades High School, U.C Santa Barbara and UCLA, he had a near death experience courtesy of Timothy Leary. As he saw his life passing in front of his eyes he realized it was the wrong life. So he moved to London to catch up with his old band mate Wayne Grajeda. After a month he was sure there was no money in England and fled to West Berlin where he visited Francis Serafini and T.M.Fabian at Hagelberger Strasse 14 in Kreuzberg. After regaining consciousness, he was told again that one could actually make a living writing and playing music. Since he had obviously died and gone to heaven, he decided to stay and spent five years with the “Berlin Circus”. Radio, television, recording, touring…what’s not to like?

In 1978 he decided to return to the world to return to the world with his girl friend in tow on a fiancé visa. Back in the states now he lives peacefully working at engineering and architecture. Music was never in second place however, and he continues to write and produce, having written over 200 songs. He bought a nice house with a recording studio and learned to play drums.

Today he is working with the producer from Three Dog Night writing and producing songs under the stage name of  Jimmy Travis for new acts including ones for the Latin market in Los Angeles.
