Steve Miller

Steve Miller plays the Dobro and guitar. Though not a songwriter himself, he’s always found himself drawn to talented ones like the Hagelberger boys. Working on the Greenwich Village folk scene in 1977, Steve met up with Tom Cunningham, who was looking for a bass player. (Tom: "You know how to play bass, don’t you , Steve?" Steve: "Well, uh....Sure, I guess so!") A three-week gig with Tom at the Folk Pub in Berlin ended up as a seven year tour of duty in the Walled City. During that time Steve played and/or recorded with all the singer-songwriters now connected with the Hagelberger project. Also in 1977, he met Shelley Beal (singing backup with the Tom Cunningham Band!) and they were married in 1980.

Steve and Shelley left Berlin in 1984 and moved to Toronto, Shelley’s home town. Since then Steve’s work has been connected mostly with country music in one or another of its many forms. In 1996 the CD Dobrology: From Bop to Broadway on the steel guitar was released on Steve’s own Rumrill Records. He and Shelley moved to the Toronto suburb of Brampton in 1997, where they live happily with a pile of guitars and their dog Lucky Bill.

Steve plays a Yanuziello Resophonic dobro.
